PRESS RELEASE
Dili, Timor-Leste · Tuesday, 20 October 2015
The UNESCO National Commission of Timor-Leste has nominated Virginia da Graça da Cruz (SportImpact Head Facilitator in the Sport for Life project) as Timor-Leste representative to the 9th UNESCO Youth Forum, which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris, France, from 26 to 28 October 2015.
Virginia is SportImpact’s head facilitator in the Sport for Life project, running engaging workshops on “Guide to Organizing Sport Events” in municipalities around the country. In those workshops, as well as in the day to day, she transmits her energy, passion and motivation for her work, inspiring everyone to take action to develop Timor-Leste and its people.
Additionally, Virginia has been organizing the Sport for Life events, ensuring that as many kids as possible participate, and coordinating diverse stakeholders to co-organize a safe, fun and children-centered event, where kids can experiment multiple sports with skilled facilitators.
Virginia is contributing tremendously to youth development and empowerment in Timor-Leste. We trust that at the UNESCO Youth Forum she will inspire her peers from around the world, and will come back inspired and full of renewed energies to build a better nation and a better world.
About the UNESCO Youth Forum
“The UNESCO Youth Forum was created in 1999 to provide young people with the opportunity to present their concerns and ideas to Member States and help shape the direction of UNESCO.
Every two years, young people from 195 Member States come together at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris to discuss and debate thematic areas of concern.
The forum culminates in a series of recommended actions to be presented at the UNESCO General Conference. These actions will take into account the lived experiences and unique perspective of youth as well as the challenges facing young people today.
