SportImpact at Doha GOALS
Nuno Delicado, SportImpact Director, was invited to facilitate a discussion on “Peacebuilding through Sport” at the Doha GOALS Forum, in Doha on November 3-5th.
Around one hundred participants in the forum took part in the session, where smaller groups brainstormed initiatives using sport as a tool for peace. In Nuno’s group, young delegates from China and Luxembourg generated ideas on using sport to connect convicts and ex-convicts with others outside prison, to facilitate reintegration and reduce recidivism.
Nicolas Sultan, from AT Kearney, coordinated a group of discussion leaders coming from a variety of organizations working in the field of sport for peace and development. Besides Nuno Delicado, from SportImpact in Timor-Leste, the group included:
- Tegla Loroupe, Tegla Loroupe Peace Foundation, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Champion Marathon Runner, Kenya
- Arnaud Mourot, Founder, Pl4y International (formerly Sports sans Frontières) and Co-Director, Ashoka Europe, France
- Tarek Alsaleh, Founder, Bidna Capoeira, UK
- David Sheepshanks, Chairman, UK Community Foundations, UK
- Daniel Smyth, Founder, Sport & Thought, UK
- Amy Zhou, President, America-China Sports Association, China
