Press release – SportImpact event gathers hundreds of kids in Gleno

To celebrate “Sport for Life”, SportImpact organized on Tuesday, May 19, a multi- sport event in the Football Field of Gleno.

Over three hundred children and young people and dozens of adults, experienced for free nine different sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, beach tennis, football, ​​karate, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

Showing that goodwill, collaboration and determination make everything possible, the event was organized jointly with local organizations: Youth Centre of Gleno, the Timor-Leste Sport Confederation, and the Association of Taekwondo of Gleno.

SportImpact also organized a seven-day workshop at the Gleno Youth Center on “Guide for the Organization of Sport Events”, where 22 local representatives from the Youth Center, Association of Athletics, Football, Basketball, Karate and Taekwondo of Gleno, among others took part. Participants co-organized the event last Tuesday, practicing what they learned in the workshop, and are already planning how to replicate it in the future.

According to SportImpact, the budget available for this project is very limited. SportImpact thanks in particular the support from AICEP Portugal Global – Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal, through an intern, the Timor-Leste Sport Confederation who provided transport and the One World Play Project, who offered ‘indestructible’ footballs through ChildFund.

For this event SportImpact particularly appreciates the support from all co-organizers and volunteers, with special acknowledgment to the Gleno Youth Center.

About the event “Sport For Life”

The “Sport for Life” event is co-organized by SportImpact with as many local groups and organizations as possible, to offer to kids, the youth and the public in general the opportunity to try a variety of sports in one place (typically to local major football field or stadium if available). – For these events we invite all the schools in the region to bring their kids. The objective is to show that a large infrastructure is not necessary to implementing these events and to encourage local groups and associations to organize it alone in the future.

These events also include health and education components (so far on non-smoking and no littering). Sportimpact is looking for partners who can see the events as a good channel and may want to enrich them with their own contents.

Para celebrar o “Desporto para a Vida”, a SportImpact organizou na terça-feira, dia 19 de maio, um evento multi-desporto no Campo de Futebol de Gleno.

Mais de três centenas de crianças e jovens e dezenas de adultos, puderam experimentar gratuitamente nove desportos diferentes: atletismo, badminton, basquetebol, futebol, karaté, taekwondo, ténis de praia, ténis de mesa e voleibol.

Demonstrando que com boa-vontade, colaboração e determinação tudo é possível, o evento foi organizado em conjunto com várias organizações locais: Centro de Juventude de Gleno, Confederação do Desporto de Timor-Leste e Associação de Taekwondo de Gleno.

A SportImpact também organizou, no Centro de Juventude de Gleno, um curso com duração de sete dias sobre “Guia para a Organização de Eventos Desportivos”, com a participação de 22 representantes locais do Centro de Juventude, Associação de Atletismo, Futebol, Basquetebol, Karaté e Taekwondo de Gleno, entre outros. Os participantes no curso co-organizaram o evento na terça-feira passada, praticando o que aprenderam no workshop e planeando como replicar o evento no futuro.

Segundo a SportImpact, o orçamento disponível para este projeto é muito limitado. A SportImpact agradece especialmente o apoio da AICEP Portugal Global – Agência para o Investimento e Comércio Externo de Portugal, através de um estagiário, à Confederação de Deporto de Timor-Leste por providenciar transporte e ao One World Play Project, que ofereceu bolas de futebol ‘indestrutíveis’ através da ChildFund.

Sobre o evento “Desporto Para a Vida”

Os eventos “Desporto para a Vida” são co-organizados pela SportImpact com o maior número possível de grupos e organizações locais, para oferecer à comunidade a oportunidade de experimentar uma variedade de desportos num só local (normalmente num campo de futebol local ou estádio se disponível).  Para estes eventos, a SportImpact convida todas as escolas da região para trazer as suas crianças e jovens.  O objectivo é mostrar que não é necessária uma grande infraestrutura para a realização dos mesmos e incentivar os grupos e associações locais a organizarem-nos sozinhos no futuro.

O evento também incluiu elementos de educação e saúde. Até ao momento: combate ao tabagismo dentro do recinto e promoção de comportamentos responsáveis em relação ao lixo. A SportImpact procura  parceiros que possam ver os eventos como um bom canal e queiram enriquecê-los com os seus próprios conteúdos.
